Viacom bought a majority stake in Bellator.  Bellator which is now the #2 MMA brand will soon have shows on the Viacom owned Spike TV in 2013.
Spike TV’s current deal with the UFC gives them rights to televise taped UFC programming however they are not allowed to air any other MMA events in 2012.
The UFC may not have realized that the danger of doing a deal with FOX was it opened the door for another MMA company to join with Spike TV.   The UFC however has been competing with all sorts of MMA brands throughout the years.  The UFC enjoys high Pay-Per-View buy rates which is what has make them profitable.
Overall some healthy competition should be good for the MMA fighters and the fans.

In what looks to be a historic move, the UFC has actually canceled the superfight of Nick Diaz vs St Pierre UFC 137 due to Diaz not making certain press conferences.
The strange round of events have been unfolding today.  There was a rumor that Diaz was in a plane crash.  Later Diaz’s business manager made a post via twitter
Twitter @JasonManly
@EllenbergerMMA @kcbanditmma his plane crashed bro have some respect! He’s safe and back training though…
This wasn’t true and later confirmed that it was meant to be a joke towards Jake Ellenberger and KCbantimma
At the UFC 137 press conference, Dana announced that St. Pierre would be facing Carlos Condit and that Diaz may be released.  Dana White also questioned if Diaz would even show up to fight at UFC 137.
I would have to assume that, yes, we’re probably going to let him go, but we’ll see what happens.
St. Pierre was stunned by the news and thought that this was possibly an elaborate prank.
Later today, Diaz fired back by posting a video on Youtube claiming that UFC was trying to block Diaz’s ambitions to move into boxing which is why he was offered the Pierre fight in the first place.
UFC other big moves have been the recently signed Alistair Overeem and Cris “Cyborg” Santos resigned with Strikeforce late August.
Update Sept 8th:
Now its confirmed Diaz will fight BJ Penn at UFC 137 and Penn’s original opponent Carlos Condit, will still be fighting Pierre.
