Cris Cyborg Tests Positive for Steroids and Suspended
Just in, Cyborg tests positive for steroids and will be suspended for 1 year. Her belt will also be stripped from her.
Dana White stated during an radio interview in Las Vegas
We were going to hold that division and just do fights with ‘Cyborg’ whenever there was a new contender.
She’s getting stripped of the title. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.
Dana also said that this will pretty much end the 145 pound division.
So now who is the real 145 lb champion?
Update Jan 7th Cyborg issues a statement
I am ultimately responsible for everything I put in my body, and at the end of the day, there is no excuse for having a prohibited substance in my system. I do not condone the use of any performance enhancing drugs by myself or any other professional athlete, and willingly accept the penalties and fines that have been handed down to me by the California State Athletic Commission and those of the StrikeForce/Zuffa organization.””While I was preparing myself for my last fight I was having a difficult time cutting weight and used a dietary supplement that I was assured was safe and not prohibited from use in sports competition. It was never my intention to obtain an unfair advantage over Hiroko, mislead StrikeForce, the Commission or my fans. I train harder than any fighter in MMA and do not need drugs to win in the cage, and I have proven this time and time again! My only mistake is not verifying the diet aid with my doctor beforehand, and understanding that it was not approved for use in the ring.” “Unfortunately in the end I suffer the consequences and must accept the responsibility for my actions.””I will do everything I can to show my fans that I can still compete at the professional level without the use of any prohibited substances, and ask God’s forgiveness for my mistake.
Update Jan 11th Gina Carano Responds to the Cyborg News in Radio Interview
Radio Host:
You last fight in MMA as most people know you lost to Cyborg about 2 1/2 years ago and yet she has just recently tested positive for steroids and she had a victory which was overturned I believe. Can you comment on that? Does that that in anyway taint the victory that she had over you a couple years ago?Gina Carano:
I would lie and say I wasn’t defiantly effected by the news because that was my most important fight in MMA to date. It was a huge for deal. It was a very awful feeling to lose that fight. And I do know that steroids regardless that can help a mental edge, they an help a physical edge. It’s an unfair edge.So I could have gone the rest of my life without hearing that she had tested positive in any of her fights because she knows along with the rest of everybody that was the question on everybody’s mind. But then again at the same time that just could be somebody around her giving her bad advise. And she defiantly a physical specimen that does not need any performance enhancements and she still be just as great as she is and maybe even better.
So I know that she going to have to do this a lot as human being earning back people’s trust as far as that goes. She got a long road ahead of her. She’s suspended for a year, the title was took from her. So that’s enough punishment as it is. I sympathize with her and I feel bad with her and she’s not a bad person. We all have our things in life that we do that aren’t necessarily right any maybe its just because we have bad direction around us at that time.
She’s a wonderful athlete. I have all the respect in the world. It did sting a lot, I’m not going to lie, to hear that. We’ll just keep on moving on. Things happen for reason. She’ll allow this experience to make her a better person. She’s still as believable as ever and she’ll come back better.

On Monday, April 9th, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos was denied a leniency appeal to CSAC to cut her suspension time in half (6 months) by the Regulatory Board.(MMAWeekly.com)
That reduction attempt contradicts Santos’ initial statement on the matter.
“I am ultimately responsible for everything I put in my body, and at the end of the day, there is no excuse for having a prohibited substance in my system,” the disgraced fighter continued. “I do not condone the use of any performance enhancing drugs by myself or any other professional athlete, and willingly accept the penalties and fines that have been handed down to me by the California State Athletic Commission and those of the Strikeforce/Zuffa organization.” (01/07/12 – MMAPrime.tv)
Furthermore, the alleged “diet supplement” (which tested positive for stanozolol) or the “training camp member” that allegedly procured it for Santos, has yet to be disclosed (even in Santos’ latest communication – Cris Cyborg Steroid Awareness Speech) Please note the heavy amount of censorship by the channel (an affiliate of MMAPrime.tv, the site of which Santos discloses communication) in the comments section. As of this update, there are 18,940 views of the video and only 22 comments, all of which are pro-Cyborg in nature.
